We are thrilled to continue our partnership with Hot 97.9, bringing our community conversations that matter. This interview series is known as Health & Hip Hop which spotlights health, wellness, and education with a focus on real-life topics that impact our everyday lives.
The latest interview is one you don’t want to miss. Physician Assistant, Aries Hamlet, sat down with Hot 97.9’s radio personality Shani Sweets, for a discussion about sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), a topic that’s often avoided but affects millions of people every year.
STDs are still a sensitive subject for many, and that stigma can keep people from seeking the help and information they need. Hamlet speaks about why these conversations are essential. She explains the common misconceptions about STD transmissions, the most effective ways a person can protect themselves, how to approach conversations about STD testing, and more.
One important point Hamlet makes during the interview is that many people don’t realize the health department can help with difficult conversations. If you’re struggling to tell someone you may have exposed them to an STD, they can contact that person anonymously and let them know: “You may have been in contact with someone who has this STD, and we recommend you get tested.”
Hamlet reminds listeners that knowledge is power when it comes to sexual health. Routine screenings and honest communication can make all the difference in preventing long-term health issues as well as breaking the stigma.
Health and Hip Hop is a judgment-free space where education meets reality, answering questions listeners want to know but might be afraid to ask.
